Featured Seller: Colorado Babies!

May 31, 2009
Be sure to stop by Etsy and check out today's busy mom Colorado Babies.

Tell me a bit about your mommy life:I am a stay at home mom to 3 amazing munchkins! I have a 3½ year old daughter, a 2 year old daughter, and newly 1 year old son. Life right now consists of food, diapers, laundry, and funny comments to make me laugh!

Tell me a bit about your shop and your creations:As a young girl, my mom and grandma taught me to crochet and knit. Since that time, I have usually had at least one creation ongoing. For years, family and friends have urged me to find a way to offer my art for sale and Etsy was a perfect match. I offer blankets, hats, mittens, booties, stuffed animals, and anything else that I come up with for small children. All of my items are made to withstand the usual stress of being blessed with active children as well as to be very useful.

Any time saving tips for juggling a business and motherhood?Make the most of every moment, even if they come in 5 or 10 minute blocks! Those little moments add up.

Fun Stuff:

Coffee, tea or hot chocolate?Coffee!!

I am addicted to….reading and following politics….my poor husband has seen more Fox News than he ever cares to!

If you could have one super power….it would be to fly!!

If I were to catch you grooving it would be to…George Strait.

Featured Seller: Baby Jaynes

Our featured "Busy Mom" for today is BABY JAYNES
Vistit her at her Etsy shop here http://www.babyjaynes.etsy.com/

Tell me a bit about your mommy life: I'm mommy to two adorable kids. A little girl who just turned 4 and a little boy who is 15 months! I started my business when I quit my full time job to stay home with my first. We do lots of mommy and me classes and now preschool for my oldest preschool, beach, pool, park, and now season passes at Disneyland. I love being a mom and having fun with my kids everyday!
This mom makes adorable blankets, pillow, burp cloths. All are soft and cuddly and adorable.

Tell me a bit about your shop: I love creating baby blankets and bedding and now little accessories. I love seeing blankets that are tattered and worn because that means they were deeply loved. My goal has always been to create the perfect child's "blankie" that they would pick and love. When I had my first baby I realized that all of the supposed "high-end" blankets out there were really poorly made and often fell apart. Being a quilter, I decided to make my own. Friends and family started ordering and it took off from there! All of my blankets use only the best quality fabric (that will withstand children!), all have special quilters batting inside (that make them more durable), and they are all quilted (which also increases their durability).

Time Saving Tip: I live by my planner! I write down everything so I don't have to worry about remembering everything. And I don't try to cram too much into one day. I plan certain days for certain tasks and that seems to help get everything done without getting overwhelmed.

Fun Stuff:
Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate: Definitely Hot Chocolate! Love it!
I'm addicted to...taking pictures of my kids. I've taken more since I've become a mom than I ever did in my life! Is that normal? :-)
If you could have one super power... making time stand still so I can make moments last longer!
Grooving: Anything top 40. The kids and I rock out in the car...in the kitchen...in the bath, I guess pretty much anywhere! Pretty much anything with a beat will do.

Featured Seller: Echo Endeavor

May 27, 2009

Our next featured seller is Echo Endeavor. Visit her on Etsy at www.echoendeavor.etsy.com or at http://www.orgsites.com/wv/echo

Tell me a bit about your mommy life:Busy…busy…busy! My little one, Logan Maximus Miller, was born October 2, 2008. I work part time for a non-profit research firm, Mid-Atlantic Technology, Research & Innovation Center as director of the life sciences program there. So, I am blessed to get to spend a lot of time with the little guy, watching him grow and interact with the world around him. There is also a cat and an African Grey Parrot in our home who I suppose claim me as “mom”, too!

Tell me a bit about your shop and your creations:I have a habit of “dabbling”…I’ll see something I like and think- I could do that! So, off I go giving it a try. I am pretty new to Etsy but my prior dabblings have included handmade jewelry and rosaries, tole painting, iris paper folding, quilling, precious metal clay, quilting, mosaics and even lampwork glass making, which I absolutely adore but find too challenging right now with the little guy and a parrot who periodically flies through the house. I picked up most of these hobbies during my graduate work but decided that the results of my “dabblings” were doing little good sitting upon my shelf or desk. So, as I was doing my graduate research in a cancer center, I decided to donate all proceeds from my handmade items to the local breast care center to help cover health care costs for those who could not otherwise afford them. So far, about $7,000 has been donated. My handmade rosaries are available for purchase at several local merchants (Vittoria & Banks: Art For Your Soul, and Rider Pharmacy). I am hoping that Etsy will allow me to enter a much larger market place, allowing even more to be donated to the breast care center. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Any time saving tips for juggling a business and motherhood? Know your limits and don’t be afraid to gently say “no” to those who inadvertently infringe on what little precious time you have. Remember your priorities and stick to what is truly important to you!

Fun Stuff:

Coffee, tea or hot chocolate? Tea. In fact, my favorite commercial tea concoction (vanilla chai latte) was discontinued so…here I go again…I decided to make my own. With a little bit of trial and error, and bias of course, I think mine is even better than the original! Although, I must admit, there is little like sipping a good mug of homemade cocoa blanketed with marshmallows in front of the fire place on a cold winter night.

I am addicted to. . . smooching my little guy and playing with his feet- but isn’t every mom?

If you could have one super power….make time stand still.

If I were to catch you grooving it would be to…likely Led Zeppelin, although on any given day you would find Logan and I bouncing around the house to any silly song that makes him smile.

I would like some feedback so let me know what you think.

Thanks for looking. If you love it as much as I do, come buy it here.

Vintage Market Love

May 17, 2009

So fun!
This weekend I got to go to a really cool Vintage Market in Mesa. I've never been to anything like this before. I almost did my first booth here but ended up having to bail out in the end (and I was supposed to be out of town.) Thanks to Becki from Whippy Cake for putting my shirts in her booth! She is so great! Everyone has to check out her stuff. She has the cutest things for little boys and girls. I fell in love with it all.She will be posting it all in her Etsy shop soon (currently closed for maternity leave) along with some great Twilight shirts that I do for her.
Now I'm hoping to have a girl someday so I can buy some of her cute cupcake jewelry, baby bracelets, and tutus and . . . well, everything. Thanks Becki.

I love it!

May 6, 2009
This is the best job ever! OK, so it's busy, especially adding my 2 year old and a 8 month old into the mix. I lay awake at night thinking of what amazing designs I can put on a shirt! Sometimes I just can't turn it off! Well, I was going through some pics for my shop when I came across some that I hadn't yet posted on my bloggity blog. One of them isn't even on Etsy yet!

I had this idea yesterday morning and couldn't stop myself from getting it done last night. It takes a lot of work, designing, printing, cutting (every line and curve is cut out with my handy dandy craft knife) and applying the stencil. This one is done with bleach. The rest use dye remover paste.

This shirt was Simon's idea. He wanted his doggie, Zeus, on his shirt. He always tells me that Zeus is a "Silly Dog". He LOVES his new shirt! He didn't want to take it off yesterday. I told him I need to wash it so he can wear it again. That helped a little.

Here is my baby boy modeling for me. I love this simple yet witty shirt. "Chick Magnet"

This one I finished as a custom order a couple weeks ago. I loved it so much I added it to the family.

If you love any of these, go see my etsy shop! www.cantaloupecorner.etsy.com

Are those. . . Cantaloupes?

May 2, 2009
Cantaloupe Corner is almost 3 weeks old , still a brand spankin' new shop. I am having so much fun getting the foundation started for what I know will be an exciting ride! I know everyone is wondering, so I wanted to tell the story of where Cantaloupe Corner got it's unique name.

So why "Cantaloupe Corner"?

When my husband was younger his family would drive through the Salt River Canyon here in AZ quite often. The grades are very steep and the roads are very windey. Once when he was about 10 years old, his family was on their was to Phoenix and they were heading around a very sharp curve when, to thier great suprise, they noticed that a truck had tipped and spilled it's entire load on the side of the road. When they got closer they noticed it was a whole truck-load of Cantaloupes strewn all across the hightway! From that day on they called that turn in the road "Cantaloupe Corner". (To me, the name always sounded like a fruitstand or cute corner store.) Now, as we drive through the Salt River Canyon with our family he tells us the story of Cantaloupe Corner every time.
Has a nice ring to it. . . Cantaloupe Corner.
